Redhouse is casting local equity/non equity actors for the following roles in upcoming production of La Cage Aux Folles.
Character Breakdown: (Roles not listed are already cast.)
Georges – The MC and owner of La Cage Aux Folles. Albin’s lover of 20 years. Jean-Michel’s father. Mature, energetic, loving and caring. Strong singer who moves well. Baritone.
Jean-Michel – George’s son. 20 years old. Well-mannered and educated yet funny and headstrong. Desperately in love with his fiancée Anne. Lyric baritone song and dance man.
Jacob – Sometime the butler, sometimes the maid! Great comedic timing, personality and zest. A real “ham” who wants to perform at La Cage Aux Folles. Must move well in heels. Baritenor.
Anne – 18-20; Jean-Michel’s fiancée. Lovely, ethereal, and spunky. A superb dancer who acts well. Sporano.
Jacqueline – Mature, female friend of Georges and Albin. Owns a chic restaurant. Charming and very theatrical. Alto.
Francis – Fussy stage manager in at La Cage Aux Folles. strong actor.
Les Cagelles – These are the fabulous showgirls at La Cage aux Folles. They are the most accomplished female impersonators in France. They all have different names, a different look and all must sing and dance – IN HEELS!
Chantal – Stunning “soprano” (falsetto) voice; She’s a bit of a diva!
Hanna– A leather-wearing dominatrix; brandishes a whip….and an attitude!
Phaedra – She’s tall, she’s gorgeous but not the brightest in the pack.
Mercedes – She thinks SHE should be the star; and let’s everyone know it.
Townspeople of St. Tropez – People of all ages and types. All of the townspeople have speaking lines and everyone sings!
Lead Roles (Except Anne) and Townspeople of St. Tropez:
Prepare and videotape 32 bars of a song either from the show or in the style of the show. Composers to look at for audition material include Jerry Herman, Kander and Ebb, Marvin Hamlisch, Bock and Harnick, and Cy Coleman. Then email the video as well as a headshot, resume, and part interested in auditioning for to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cagelles and Anne:
In addition to your vocal audition, please learn and record the dance audition combo. Performing the dance combination in heels is preferred but not required. Each of the Cagelles has a very different and unique personality so feel free to add your own personality and flair to the combo. Email your singing video, dance video, headshot, and resume to email@example.com. In addition, include a video if you do either of the following:
-Sing soprano in your falsetto range
-Have any specialty dance tricks (tumbling, death drops, turns in second, etc.)
