A survey course designed to expose actors to varying theater dance styles, including Hip Hop, Contemporary, Jazz, and Musical Theatre Styles. Each class is taught by a professional in the field.

“Sword Fighting Workshop”

Students will develop basic techniques for broadsword stage combat, culminating in a choreographed fight sequence. Taught Anton Briones, SAFD trained instructor and professional actor.

“Scene Study”

1-4 pm
Using The Adler Method, students will learn the basic principle of the Adler acting method while preparing short contemporary scene work for public performance. The course will focus on developing strong analytical skills as well as connecting emotion to the text. Team taught by Stephen Svoboda and Laura Austin along with other guest teachers.

“Singing for the Stage”
4 weeks, Sundays
June 3, 10, 17, 24
1-4 pm
Intensive instruction in voice work and connecting acting to song. Students will work on a full contemporary musical theatre piece and develop a 16 bar cut of the piece for auditions. The course will taught by David Williams, an international classical pianist and musical theatre director with Broadway and Off-Broadway credits.

Film Making 101
Two year-long sequential learning programs that offer students the opportunity to participate in the creative process of film-making.
The “My Life” Documentary Project
Sundays: October 23, January 22, March 11, May 20
Screening on May 25 at 6pm
The “My Life” Documentary Project allows students to create a short documentary film that chronicles their life stories. Students will use hand held Flip cameras to create a cinema verite documentary about a year in their lives.

The Short-Short Narrative Film Project
Saturdays: October 22, January 21, March 10, May 19
Screening
These workshops allow filmmakers to develop their own 5 – 10 minute narrative film. Guest instructors with professional film credits lead intensive workshops beginning in September with film screenings in May. Courses include Screenwriting, cinematography, editing, and post-production. The program will be curated by Mark Mocahbee, a professional documentary and narrative filmmaker.
