August 5th, 2004, she was the first to step up to the mic and rock The Redhouse. This summer, The Redhouse is excited to welcome back SAMMY Award-winner Kim Monroe, for a special CD release party where she will perform songs from her latest album, New Reality.
This Cazenovia native and Niagara Falls University junior splits her time between music and school. In a world dominated by young divas, what is it that separates 18-year old Kim Monroe from the rest of the pack? She has unbridled conviction and soul that she delivers in every note. She belts out sassy, soulful and songs that reflect a maturity and sophistication well beyond her years.
Her producer, Mark Doyle, whose credits include New Kids On the Block, Hall & Oates, Meatloaf, and Bryan Adams, concurs. "There's a lot of Old-School and R&B in her sound, an emotional resonance in what she sings that crosses generational barriers.
Another important distinction is that Kim writes her own music, often collaborating with Doyle. Her lyrics pull no punches, exploring tenuous and sometimes tangled relationships with an edgy and streetwise attitude. The music that she creates with Doyle is guitar-driven rock, which when coupled with her R&B-influenced vocals and hip-hop grooves makes one imagine her as the offspring of some imaginary tryst between Gladys Knight and Jimmy Page.
