Hailing from New Jersey, Vicki Genfan is simply one of the most exciting guitarists around. Featured on Vanguard Records’ recent La Guitara CD (a collection of virtuoso female guitarists), Genfan’s dynamic style borrows as much from Michael Hedges and Pat Metheny as it does from James Taylor and Earth Wind and Fire. Playing both original instrumentals and vocal-based material, Genfan uses two-handed tapping, harmonic slaps, and alternate tunings in a style that is uniquely her own.
Winner of the Just Plain Folks Award in 2001 for her instrumental, New Grass, and taking the 2nd place trophy at the New Song Festival in 2004 for her lyric-driven, Eleanor, Genfan is equally at home slapping, tapping and tuning her guitar as she is delivering stories of love, life, and hope through her poignent and honest lyrics.
Genfan has been touring and teaching internationally for the past 6 years in support of her two solo CDs, Outside the Box (Self Released 2000) and Vicki Genfan – Live (Acoustic Music Records, Germany 2003). Her newest collection, Up Close & Personal, is a double CD and will be self-released on her newly formed Harmonic Touch Records June 14, 2006.
