This charming love story follows Ethel and Norman Thayer as they return to their summer home in Maine. Their respite is interrupted by the arrival of their estranged daughter, her fiancé, and his teenage son. In the twilight years of mar-riage, Ethel and Norman rediscover the importance of family. Starring TV comedy icon, Fred Grandy (Loveboat and The Mindy Project) and his real life daughter Broadway’s Marya Grandy.

Meet the Cast

Fred Grandy

Fred Grandy (Norman Thayer) Although best known for his role of Gopher on the hit TV series The Love Boat, Fred Grandy has most recently been seen as the lecherous Dr. Ledreau on the long running Fox/ Hulu series The Mindy Project and will appear in the upcoming Nickelodeon series, Knight Squad. On stage he starred this fall in the premiere of the new comedy Dinner at Five in Denver and has been seen as JB Biggley in the Connecticut Repertory Theatre’s production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. A trained Shakespearean actor he is a founding member of the Alchemical Theatre Company in Wilmington, NC where he has played in Measure for Measure, Much Ado About Nothing, and will portray Sir Toby Belch in the forthcoming production of Twelfth Night. In addition to his acting career, Mr Grandy has served four terms in the US House of Representatives and spent five years as the International CEO of Goodwill Industries. He has three children all of whom are more talented than he.

Mayra Grandy

Marya Grandy (Chelsea Thayer Wayne) Broadway and New York productions: the 2012 Off-Broadway revival of Maltby & Shire’s Closer Than Ever, Les Misérables (2006 Revival), Damn Yankees, Bells Are Ringing (City Center Encores!), The Great American Trailer Park Musical (Drama Desk Nomination), and The Water Coolers (co-author). Chicago credits include Honeymoon in Vegas, How to Succeed…, Sister Act, On the Town (Jeff Nomination), 9 to 5 (Marriott Theatre), Saturday Night Fever (Drury Lane), The Secret Garden (Court Theatre), Les Miserables (Paramount Theatre), Juno (TimeLine Theatre), and A Grand Night for Singing (Mercury Theater–Jeff Nomination). Marya has performed regionally in Fanny Brice: America’s Funny Girl (World Premiere, directed by David H. Bell), Pump Boys & Dinettes, Follies, Take Flight, Gypsy, Beehive, Smokey Joe’s Café, The Honky Tonk Angels, Working, and The Water Coolers (Jeff Nomination). Television/film credits: “Chicago P.D.”, “Rescue Me”, “Conviction”, “Law & Order”, “Law & Order: SVU”, “Denis Leary’s Merry F***ing Christmas”, and “Love Streams”. Recordings include the Original Cast Recording of The Great American Trailer Park Musical, The Manhattan Transfer’s Bodies and Souls, and Superwoman, with her band, Five Floor Monica. Marya received her B.A. from Yale University, and is a proud member of Actors Equity. Love and gratitude to Vince and Matt. Marya dedicates this performance to her parents.

Jan Radcliff

Jan Radcliff (Ethel Thayer) started in the business more than 30 years ago booking still photography models at a talent agency in Phoenix, Arizona.  Since then she has worked as an actor and performer in Los Angeles, Chicago and Detroit, where she was fortunate to have taken master acting workshops with the late legendary actor and teacher, Uta Hagen. Jan has done extensive work as an on-camera & voice over talent in commercials and industrial films.  Independent feature film work includes speaking parts opposite Pierce Brosnan and Ed Harris in SALVATION BOULEVARD directed by George Ratliff and CRIPPLE directed by Michael Uppendahl with Tom Berrenger, Aaron Paul and Celia Weston. More recently she was seen in the HBO movie, CONFIRMATION. Favorite theatrical roles include “Vivian Bearing” in WIT and “Sister Aloyisius” in DOUBT both of which were produced by Performance Network in Ann Arbor, and “Mrs. Collins” in ODYSSEUS D.O.A. at Connecticut Rep. In Chicago Jan understudied Deanna Dunagan and Linda Kimbrough in The Goodman Theatre’s production of OTHER DESERT CITIES. She is a long-time member of SAG-AFTRA, Actors’ Equity Association and the Dramatists Guild. She now lives in North Carolina near her daughter and two grandchildren.

Justin dunn small

Justin Dunn (Billy, Jr.) is thrilled to be back on stage at the Redhouse. When he isn’t on stage acting, dancing and singing, he enjoys reading, table tennis, soccer and chess. Redhouse credits include, Little Boy in Ragtime, Oliver in Oliver!, Young Tarzan in Tarzan, Young Roo in Seussical, Seagull in Little Mermaid and ensemble in Wizard of Oz, Carousel and A Year with Frog and Toad. Other titled roles include Fritz/Hanz in The Nutcracker (Syracuse City Ballet), Milky White in Into the Woods (Montessori School of Syracuse), and Young Evers/Elmer in The Steadfast (Appleseed Productions). Justin is grateful for the support of his family and the opportunities this theater and community have given him.


John Bixler (Bill Ray) was last seen onstage at Connecticut Repertory Theater (CRT) as Lloyd Dallas in Noises Off. Upcoming he will perform in Redhouse’s May production of La Cage aux Folles. Other Redhouse performances include, Six Degrees of Separation, Passion Play, Big Fish, Much Ado About Nothing, Broadway Bound, Gross Indecency, A Man of No Importance,The Penguin Tango, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,The Cherry Orchard, The Curious Case of Phineas Gage, Macbeth (2014 SALT Award – Best Actor), The Baltimore Waltz, The Full Monty, Noises Off, Odysseus DOA, Vigil (2013 SALT nomination for best actor), Pirates of Penzance, Man of La Mancha, My Fair Lady, and Guys and Dolls (CRT), House & Garden, Johnny Guitar (Actor’s Playhouse), Shining City, Master Harold And The Boys (Gables Stage.) John can be seen on YouTube with Steve Hayes in the web series Tired Old Queen at the Movies. He graduated magna cum laude with a BFA in performance from Ohio University.


Michael J Farina* (Charlie Martin) is pleased to be making his Red House debut. He comes most recently from playing Nicely Nicely in Guys and Dolls and Mr. Fezziwig in A Christmas Carol, both with the Milwaukee Repertory Theater. Broadway credits include In My Life as Al (God) at Music Box; Seussical the Musical as Grandpa Who (u/s – Horton), Richard Rogers; A Christmas Carol as Mr. Fezziwig, Madison Square Garden; My Fair Lady as Jamie (u/s – Karparthy), Virginia Theatre; and Fiddler as Nachum (u/s – Mordcha), Gershwin Theatre. Regional Favorites: Man of La Mancha as Sancho, Paper Mill Playhouse; Pirates of Penzance as Samuel, Guthrie Theatre; Kiss Me, Kate as Gangster #1, Houston’s TUTS; Sweet Charity as Herman, North Shore Music Theatre; Urinetown as Officer Barrel, Geva Theater Center; and Oliver as Mr. Bumble, Gateway Playhouse.
